When he acquired the 18th century Jayne family homestead in 1908, SPLIA founder Howard Sherwood initiated a lifetime of collecting, studying and “living with antiques.” Filled with a varied collection of furniture and objects, the Sherwood-Jayne house is located in a bucolic setting with sheep grazing in the adjoining pasture. Hand painted floral wall frescoes imitating expensive wallpaper decorate the east parlor. The Sherwood-Jayne property has retained its 19th c. agrarian context –hayfields, meadows, woodlot and orchard. DIRECTIONS
