Help Us Collect the 20th Century

Do you have any old ephemera in your attic relating to Long Island in the 20th century? A souvenir from Jones Beach perhaps? A button from the 1939 World’s fair? A set of highball glasses with the Long Island Railroad’s “Dashing Dan” logo? If so, the Society would be interested!

Ephemera is defined as everyday documents and artifacts such as programs, brochures, broadsides, magazines, postcards, trade catalogues, posters, invitations, timetables, stock certificates, maps, calendars, souvenirs and other such items. SPLIA’s next exhibit at the Gallery will focus on such objects as they define the events and cultural changes which shaped the lives of Long Islanders during the time Long Island evolved from an agricultural center and early resort destination to one of the nation’s most populous suburbs.
