Locust Valley
The Locust Valley Historical Society is working with the new owner of the Joseph Weeks, Jr. House to find an adaptive use. The house is located at 41 Oyster Bay Road on commercially zoned property and was previously used as a dwelling, but has been vacant for the past two years. The LVHS hired an engineer to inspect the house, who has determined that the structure is restorable, and action has been taken to secure the building and clean up the site. The house is a Town of Oyster Bay designated landmark said to be constructed in 1698 according to the designation application. However, recent evaluation by an architectural historian has determined a c.1800 construction date. The building retains most of its original features including fireplaces, hardware, moldings, and doors. Found at the entrance to the Locust Valley Business District, the local Locust Valley Civic Association is seeking to create a historic district which would encompass the Joseph Weeks, Jr. House as well as other historic structures nearby.
